Worked example
3,100 kWh a year at 26p per kWh is £806 of energy. Add a 54p daily standing charge — £197 over 365 days — and the yearly cost is about £1,003, or roughly £84 a month.
The calculator does this with the official figures for your own region rather than a national average.
Mistakes that change the answer
- Entering a monthly kWh figure in the yearly box. Multiply by twelve first.
- Using the rate from an old bill after a cap change.
- Leaving the standing charge out entirely — it is usually £150 to £250 a year on its own.
