If your meter reads in cubic metres

Convert the reading to kWh first, otherwise the answer will be roughly eleven times too small. The gas m³ to kWh calculator does the conversion and the costing in one step.

Mistakes that change the answer

  • Costing cubic metres as if they were kWh.
  • Assuming gas usage is even across the year — most of it lands in four winter months.
  • Comparing a gas rate against an electricity benchmark.

Common questions

Why is my gas usage so much higher than my electricity usage?
Heating and hot water dominate. A typical home uses roughly four times more gas kWh than electricity kWh.
Does this include VAT?
It uses the published Ofgem figures, and the provenance note states the VAT treatment for that period.
